We are so pleased to share that – against some seriously tough competition – our work on the Ross-on-Wye Neighbourhood Plan has received a commendation in the category for Plan Making Excellence at the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) National Awards for Planning Excellence 2021!

The RTPI Awards for Planning Excellence are the most established and respected awards in the UK planning industry. Running for over 40 years, they celebrate exceptional examples of planning and the contribution planners make to society.

The Ross-on-Wye Neighbourhood Plan addresses a wide range of issues of long-term concern to local people. We worked with the Steering Group from the outset to run meaningful consultation and compile a robust evidence base to support planning policies and projects that are already being put into action. You can read more about the project here.

“The judges chose to commend this entry, not only to highlight the fantastic work carried out, but to promote the transferability of the work across the UK. This submission showed a clear passion from the planners in wanting to drive this Neighbourhood Plan forward and their work went above and beyond for both planning and the community. They were able to engage effectively with the local community, including difficult to reach groups, to give them a sense of ownership, which led to a successful implementation of the Plan. This project, that brings people back to the centre of planning, is a positive and beneficial framework that should be replicated.” RTPI Awards for Planning Excellence, 2021

This award is a huge achievement both for us and for the Steering Group in Ross-on-Wye, who worked so hard on a variety of aspects of plan making. We also worked closely with the Local Planning Authority who supported the Neighbourhood Plan making process throughout. The awards ceremony was full of inspiring examples of planning projects all over the country. You can read more about all of the finalists here.
