This summer we celebrated a few successes.

Our long term work on the Joint Melksham Neighbourhood Plan resulted in a positive yes vote from their community on the second edition of the Plan.

We worked with the brilliant team of people and the communities of both the town and the surrounding rural parish on their first plan (referendum July 2021) and we went very quickly into review to tackle significant housing pressure and changes in housing requirements. As the chair said:

This is a bold Plan that goes beyond minimum requirements, with the aim of getting the best possible outcomes from development for our communities as well as providing a legacy for future generations
from a plan-led regeneration of brownfield sites. It tackles the difficult issue of housing shortage and need, by taking a positive and proactive approach to managing future development.
It prioritises the regeneration of both the Cooper Tires and the Old Library site to support the delivery of homes, jobs and town centre vitality. Both of these projects attracted strong community support at the consultation stage.

We enjoyed a little celebration, and a glass or two of fizz with the brilliant team that worked so hard on both plans over about 6 years. Well done Melksham!

We were also really proud to have won the South West Small Planning Consultancy of the Year. The judges said “In selecting this entry as winner, the judges felt that Place Studio put together a well-crafted, evidence-based and fascinating submission, fully deserving of RTPI recognition through the Awards”.

We are really proud to now go through to the national finals with 3 other small practices. We’re heading to London in November and can’t wait to find out more about other people and projects who made the finals.
